St. Athanasius's Mission Statement

The primary purpose of Saint Athanasius School is to develop the full, human potential in each student by fostering his/her emotional, spiritual, social and intellectual growth. The mission is based on the living Word of the Gospel lived out through study prayer, and service witnessed by the family, the school, and the community. These values underscore the respect due to all people.

A student of St.Athanasius is challenged to develop the knowledge and skills to become an independent life-long learner. Innovative methodologies, new technology and recent curriculum developments enable the student to grasp the fundamental concepts and think critically. Art, music and physical education, along with the traditional academic areas, stimulate and awaken the multiple intelligences of each student.

Teachers and staff of St. Athanasius are dedicated to fostering and nurturing each student's spiritual and moral values. Teachers respect and encourage each other in their professional relationships and maintain open communication with parents, the primary educators of their children.

Administrative policies are collaboratively designed by the principal and teachers to enhance learning. Programs and curriculum are revised regularly to meet the individual needs of the students as well as the state standards and the New York Archdiocesan Essential Learnings. Evaluation is on- going to improve the teaching-learning process.

Through the united efforts of out parish and school administration, teachers, families and students, we offer hope and support in the face of violence, abuse and family suffering. With the assistance of our alumni, friends, benefactors, and local community, we encourage out students to play a positive role in the diverse, global society of the 21st century.

School Counseling Program Mission Statement

The Guidance Department has designed a comprehensive program that full supports and works toward the school mission fostering growth and achievement in academics, career and personal/social developments for all students. The program is based ion the ASCA National Model which ensures that all students will have equal access to counseling and through participation in counseling will gain the specific knowledge, attitudes and skills that they need to fulfill the schools mission of becoming an, "independent life-long learner."

The cooperative and collaborative environment of St.Athanasuis is an essential element to the success of the counseling program. As a leader the school counselor will work closely with parents, teachers, students, administrators and community agencies to promote and foster student growth and achievement. It is because of the collaborative effort that the students are able to get the services needed to help them reach their full potential. All students at St. Athanasius have access to the school counselor. Services are primarily implemented through developmental guidance lessons, in the classroom, small group and individual counseling.
